Founded by jacob combe in 2026,

Helix Lab

is a contact improvisation-based

research + performance Laboratory,

investigating our humanity through our bodies.

We facilitate intensive workshops and dance laboratories,

and devise experimental performances and group experiences.

Artist’s Statement:

For me, contact improvisation dance is a way of devising radical new ways of being together.

It’s about how we human + how we can human.

It is a practice of non-verbal inquiry into physics - physical physics + relational physics + spiritual physics.

It is a practice of falling + allowing one another to fall.

It’s a never-ending ledger of questions about perception + occurrence.

Sometimes alone, sometimes with other, I roll on the floor + discover something new.

Thank you to my teachers:

amongst others: Mark Young, Lilianna Kane, Nica Portavia, Nita Little, Keith Hennessy, Karen Nelson, Leilani Weiss, Paul Singh, Irene Sposetti & Alicia Grayson.
